  The City of Dowagiac is located in Cass County in the heart of Southwestern Michigan.  The area is known for its fruit farms and many inland lakes.The City of Dowagiac is located in Cass County in the heart of Southwestern Michigan. It was part of a glacial lake ten miles wide that stretched from Grand Rapids, Michigan to South Bend, Indiana. Present remains of the lake include Dowagiac Creek, Twin Lakes northeast of Dowagiac and two small lakes on the University of Notre Dame campus.

The area is known for its fruit farms and many inland lakes. The City is approximately 30 miles east of the Lake Michigan Shoreline.
