The City of Dowagiac is a pro-active, business friendly community that provides a high level of service to its businesses. Our one-on-one service provides individualized service to existing and potential businesses. The City's Community and Economic Development Department and the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce work cooperatively to make Dowagiac a great place to work, live and play.

The Community and Economic Development department of the City is the one-stop shop for existing businesses and developers. Our goal is to facilitate doing business in Dowagiac. Large-scale commercial and industrial businesses are visited at least once a year to maintain an open line of communication and provide ombudsman services for any issues that may arise involving local or state agencies. This department also process PA 198 tax abatements.

For developers and new businesses this department provides assistance on site location, planning and zoning, permitting, incentives and facilitating requirements from the State of Michigan.


The Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce

The Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary partnership of business and professional people, working together to build a healthy economy and to improve the quality of life in Dowagiac. As the Chamber of Commerce works to accomplish these goals, it wears many hats: economic developer and planner, tourist information center, business spokesperson, economic counselor and teacher, government relations specialist, human resources and public relations practitioner.

The membership is comprised of businesses, organizations and individuals concerned with the socio-economic climate of our community who are working together to make Dowagiac a better place for you to work, live and play. The Chamber offers a wide array of services to its members including insurance opportunities, low-cost advertising, marketing Dowagiac, networking and special events.
